Day 18: Drink
So…it might be obvious that I kinda suck at keeping up with this #febphotoaday thing.  One part busyness and two parts lack of inspiration (come on…Phone?) produces a half-ass level of participation.
Finn came home early from school yesterday with a stomachache. It had begun on Thursday evening, but we couldn’t figure out if he was milking something minor or if it was legit (no temp, eating fine, etc.). He gave school a valiant attempt, but it was still dogging him after lunch so I walked over and picked him up (I love living/working 2 blocks from his school).
As I finished up my Friday workday (half-assedly…because well…it was Friday), he read for awhile, took a short nap and produced some of the most bombastic farts I’ve ever heard (he remarked that it sounded like he had taken some Fart Powder)…obviously stuff was legitimately churning in his belly.
After my afternoon phone calls, he wanted to watch the final episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, a series that dominated many of our evenings last winter.  We cuddled and drank tea on the couch while we watched Aang kick some Phoenix King ass (with integrity, not malice). After, he asked if we could go out to dinner because he hadn’t gone out in awhile (because of my diet limitations). We walked to our favorite restaurant here in town and ate at the bar (it was slamming). I love eating at the bar at this place.  We talked to everyone around us and the bartender/server is the perfect mix of attentive, dynamic and catty. While Ginger Ale did its magic on Finn’s stomach (how the hell does that work?), I shared my love of the wine special with our bar-mates (see how I worked in Drink there?). Then we indulged in a Fresh Berry and Chocolate Ganache Tartlette (it was the first sugar I’d had in two months)…it was cathartic.
We were both asleep by 8:30.  I woke up at 5 this morning and he followed soon after at 6.  After watching Avatar yesterday, he wanted to know more about the upcoming sequel series, The Legend of Korra. We watched this trailer and read the wikipedia page; we both think it looks incredibly cool.
He has been learning Powerpoint/Presentation making at school and decided he wanted to do an Avatar research project (that’s what he’s doing in the pic…with his cup of cocoa…see that, drink). Per usual, I got excited and started to over involve myself/micro managed it by showing him how to cut and paste images in his presentation. I saw his body language recoil and his face start to glaze over. I told him I was really just trying to help and sorry for being a pain in the butt parent.  He told me he knew I couldn’t help myself and knows I was just trying to help.  I told him he knew where to find me if he needed anything. More and more he doesn’t need things from me, but maybe that’s because he always knows where to find me.
