Where have the dbd boys been lately?  When not jet setting to Cali for a totally righteous vacay, we are reading our little hearts out.
This is Finn this AM.  In bed, reading…for the last 45 minutes.  What did we do for an hour before bed last night?  Yep, we were both in his bed reading.
Finn started reading at an early age (roughly around 3), but he was hard pressed to let go of his beloved graphic novels. He would start chapter books, but he would rarely finish them.  This summer he and dbg started to read Greek Mythology. He picked up the first Percy Jackson book and began to read it on his own.  With summer camp (and long summery days), it took him all summer to finish the first book.  Since school started six weeks ago, he has blown through books two and three and now almost done with four. For this kid, Greek Mythology was the gateway drug to chapter books.
As you can see from the books on the side of his bed, we are also heavy into Calvin and Hobbes right now.  He loves them, but I have to say…there is some heavy existential shit in those comics.  It makes for some very interesting bedtime conversations.  Mostly it’s me trying to explain the philosophical concepts they are talking about or simply the definition of a word.  Like Finn has said several times, 6 year olds do not talk like this!  Hell, 40 year olds don’t talk like this.
I better go rouse the little book nerd out of bed and get this day going.
