Random bits of a single dad

How else do you start the first day of Greek Camp then building a LEGO robot. Just like Democracy, ancient Greeks were totally ahead of their time with robotics.
For months, I’ve been chomping at the bit to start programming with this bad boy. Once I passed on my old computer to Finn (grant it, his old computer was a POS), he was ready to go. I may be persuaded to actually take a computer to Maine with us now so we can continue working on this.
Plus…gratuitous dbg tat leg shot! Your’e welcome.

(Sharknado x Frito Pie) + dbg = White Trash date night.

Jealous much?

This is Finn’s last week of summer camp. After being tired and a bit of an out of character grumpy/attitude-y a-hole this last weekend, I’m pretty sure he’s done with it. Note: Four weeks of summer camp is the perfect number.
During the Spring, as we were planning his summer, he wanted to have a week of just “hanging.”  Since dbg is around, he told he and she could just “do whatever for a week.”  Being the type-a guy that I am, I told him to talk with her and come back with some sort of plan. Out of that conversation, "Greek Camp" was born. Above is the schedule he wrote up with dbg over the weekend. It’s far more structured than I anticipated, but like that there is a lot down time too.  Much like his father, while the kid enjoys his laziness, he likes it well scheduled.

We went to see Eddie Izzard last night, which obviously called for getting all swanky. We went to our favorite (i.e. Vermont’s only decent) BBQ joint before the show and sat on the open porch stuffing our pretty little faces with so much meat and beer. The show was ok. I get his appeal - he’s smart, goofy and can pull topic threads back together with silly mastery - but Mr. Izzard is just not my kind of funny.
Since we were all dressed up, we ended the eve with some whisky (Irish for me, bourbon for her) at our favorite watering hole in town.
It’s fun being an adult sometimes.

Rando things in a bullet list (cause I like to remember mundane things…and I’m really lazy)

  • Today is Finn’s first day of summer camp.  I’m a little sad I’m not able to take him this year (timing/logistics and my stupid back).  I won’t see him again until Friday.
  • He and dbg went to an opera yesterday here in the sticks. The word is he thought it was pretty meh…because it was pretty meh. Opera in the sticks is a funny concept.
  • My other two kids were here over the weekend. It was an all too short a visit. While my older boy will be at sleep away camp for 7 weeks, I’m hoping to get to see my daughter a bit more.
  • I need to write them both a letter/email…about how I feel, because I never have enough time or balls to do it when we see each other.
  • Lot’s of time at the pool, eating creemees and playing games was had (and not a single pic taken…sigh).
  • It’s been over 24 hours since I’ve had pain meds and I feel pretty good.
  • Said pain meds  have been fucking with my skin and digestive track to no end. I’m way to vain to ever become an Oxy addict.
  • While I do have to work this week (seriously..wtf is work), I’m looking forward to having dbg here. I am a comedic genius when she is around (read as: copious poop jokes).
  • I have so many things to deal with that I let slip these last couple weeks (besides a shit ton of work). Like my semi-dead car (dead battery and flat tire in the say day) and cleaning (although dbg and Finn did do a bang up job on Saturday morning on the place).

A great day in Montreal. First, Finn and I tagged along with dbg to her Monteverdi concert rehearsal at McGill (I find the rehearsals far more interesting than the actual concerts).  Afterwards we had great food at a old skool Portuguese joint (the best chicken and chips ever!) and then finished off our afternoon at the Biodome (pic above).

It’s finally sunny here and above 50F/10C. We have to head back to back to VT tomorrow, but not before meeting up with dbg’s dad (dbgd?) tonight for some good Indian eats.

(Yep…Finn is still rocking his ska/blues brothers/guido gangster look. He put it back on first thing when he woke this AM.)

At dbg’s in Montreal. All the mammals in the house are at the table doing their thing. dbg had to work today…all day…until very late. Super sad face.
As opposed to the 75F/22C day we had yesterday at Jay, it’s cold and windy today. We are headed downtown in a bit to go to The Bay (to get Finn a shirt for a Bat Mitzvah next week), catch Jurassic Park in 3D (at a theater with actual good 3D) and maybe go to the contemporary art museum (supposedly it’s free on Thursdays) Museum of Fine Arts (which is always free).

dbg and I made a video for our 1 year anniversary. It went something like this.
It might become a regular thing, if I can figure out this damn open source video editing software.
Will post something soon….I hope.

So yeah… This happened yesterday.

More awesome, is that it’s 10am and I’m in PJs with dbg drinking coffee and eating meat.

Buh-bye Beardo! I just shaved…10 years off my face. (Yes…that is my awesome “Everyone is Gay" shirt in the first photo.)

Finn and I had a little date last night to see Jack the Giant Slayer.  It was pretty fun - 2 parts adventure and 1 part romance, the perfect balance for my tweeny boy. This AM - despite the furnace being out for the umpteen time this week and the temp hanging around 50F - we are enjoying a chill morning before we go off to our respective adventures.  His bff will be here shortly to pic him up for capoeira and then I’m off to go do my first CrossFit Open Competition WOD

Then tonight I’m in Montreal to celebrate 1 year since meeting dbg. Such a big weekend.

Such a fun day on the mountain with Finn. Coupled with a very tweeny Twilight marathon and a date night tonight with dbg… all in all a phenomenal weekend.

Oscar party!

Xmas dinner with the whole dbg clan in Vancouver. Such good food and company (and so many different types of booze)…complete with being groped by the pervy aunt.

Finally a pic of the two of us in some fancy pants clothing. BTW..this is dbg’s sultry face. Not sure what look I was going for.

I hope you and yours had/having a wonderful holiday.
