A great day in Montreal. First, Finn and I tagged along with dbg to her Monteverdi concert rehearsal at McGill (I find the rehearsals far more interesting than the actual concerts).  Afterwards we had great food at a old skool Portuguese joint (the best chicken and chips ever!) and then finished off our afternoon at the Biodome (pic above). 

It’s finally sunny here and above 50F/10C. We have to head back to back to VT tomorrow, but not before meeting up with dbg’s dad (dbgd?) tonight for some good Indian eats.

(Yep…Finn is still rocking his ska/blues brothers/guido gangster look. He put it back on first thing when he woke this AM.)

Finn and I had a little date last night to see Jack the Giant Slayer.  It was pretty fun - 2 parts adventure and 1 part romance, the perfect balance for my tweeny boy. This AM - despite the furnace being out for the umpteen time this week and the temp hanging around 50F - we are enjoying a chill morning before we go off to our respective adventures.  His bff will be here shortly to pic him up for capoeira and then I’m off to go do my first CrossFit Open Competition WOD. 

Then tonight I’m in Montreal to celebrate 1 year since meeting dbg. Such a big weekend.

 As dbg said, yesterday I had the best baller day ever: - Lifted 315 pounds off the ground. - Did my first muscle up. - Bought a flashy/pimpy pinstripe suit that fits my body (while I don’t wear one much, none of the ones I have fit me anymore). - Not only consumed two hot dogs AND two beers at the derby bout, but finished the evening with a burger the size of my head (buh-bye Whole 30). - IMHO, we looked kinda hot shit at said derby bout (above). Looking forward to picking up Finn in a couple hours and getting ready for our kid infused Super Baller Party tonight.

 As dbg said, yesterday I had the best baller day ever:

Oh Fuck…It’s December!

  1. Just in case you forget while reading this…I really do love my kid to no end.
  2. However, typically I dislike all that is December and Christmas.
  3. If like me, you have a kid - one that was born in December no less - the entire month is full of conflicted emotions.
  4.  Despite your curmudgeony ways, you do step up and make it a great celebratory month for him.
  5. On top of that, you have a girlfriend a couple hours away that teaches and performs for a living, which makes seeing one another a complete cluster.
  6. And for some reason, you thought it was an awesome idea back in September to travel back to the west coast for a 4th time in as many months to visit the said girlfriend’s family (it is still an awesome idea…just a lot).
  7. Furthermore, you have a couple Jewish donor kids down in Boston and you have to celebrate not just one, but two different semi-religious holidays.
  8. In the end, all I want to do is hang out at home - ignoring all the crazy shit swirling around this time of year - with my favorite peeps and play board games, read, watch movies and go skiing.

There is really no light at the end of the proverbial tunnel on the eve of December 1.

I really do love thanksgiving. It can a huge mixed bag, but it gives me (and Finn) the annual opportunity to connect - around food no less - with the the wonderfully crazy ass people I call my family. They may be totally bat shit…but they are MY bat shit crazy. Every year, as I’m getting ready to go back home from our visit (tomorrow), I experience this same longing to be geographically closer to them. It is not in the cards anytime soon, but hopefully my sister and I can figure out how to make that happen…as we get more and more unruly wiry grey hairs on odd parts of our bodies. To stay off the early morning euphoric post-Disney urge to write a post of bulleted crap I’m thankful for, I will give you just this one: I’m so thankful for that place where love and laughter come together. I feel very lucky to have found myself in that place for much of this past year…in all places in my life - parenting, relationship, family, friends, etc.. No matter how inappropriate or tasteless it is (which it almost always is), it is backed by a trust and knowing that grounds us all and somehow deepens that connection (as cheese ball as that sounds). I sent this awesomely bad Someecard I made to my sister and dbg a couple weeks ago (call it a moment of inspiration). dbg was like, “What’s up with Americans and their obsession with stuffing?” And I was all, “I don’t hear you complaining.” While my sister just said that better be Easy Sausage Stuffing you are talking about. I have classy broads in my life.  I hope your Thanksgiving is equally as full of love and really bad humor. (Click the image for more tasteless Someecards)

The older son is having an amazing time at camp this year.  It was the most affectionate and open interaction I’ve had with him in some time. Oh and dbg met…EVERYONE (ok…almost everyone…I was just being dramatic there).  As was expected, she was a big hit.
